Stoup in the porch of St. Mary the Virgin, Old Linslade
Stoup, St. Mary the Virgin, Old Linslade
© copyright Kevin Quick
Subject: 15th/16th Century Stoup in the south porch of St. Mary the Virgin, Old Linslade
Date: 2004
Notes: Stoup are vessels placed near an entrance doorway, to contain holy water; those usually remaining are in the form of a deeply-dished stone set in a niche. Early 20th century descriptions of the stoup in St Mary the Virgin, describe the bowl as being broken, so it would appear the bowl has either been repaired or replaced.
