The xijth of July 1634
In the name of God Amen: I John Moore of leghton Bussard, in the
County of Bedford Esquier, being sicke in body, but of perfect
mynd and memorye thankes be given to Almighty god, doe make this
my last will and testament, in manner and forme following, First,
and principally, I doe frely render up my soule into the handes
of almighty god my creator, haveing by faith in Christ Jesus, by
his meritts, for eternall salvac[i]on: my body I bequeath to the
earth, to be decently buryed, in the parish church of Winge, neare
to the place, where John Moore my Father was buryed, at the discrec[i]on
of my executrices hereafter named. Item I doe give, and bequeath
to the poore of leighton bussard five poundes of lawfull English
money, and to the poore of Cublington five poundes of like money,
and to the poore of Stukly five poundes of like money, and to the
poore of wing five poundes of like money, to be payd by my executrices
within three monethes next after my decease. Item whereas I have
surendred all my coppyhould lands, \& ten[emen]tes/ parcell
of the Mannaer of Leighton bussard, in the County of Bed[ford]
unto my loving freind Mr. Franncis Welles: my will and meaninge
is, that the said Franncis Welles shall within sixe monethes, next
after my decease, or soe soone as conveniently hee can, sell the
said Coppyhould landes, and ten[emen]tes unto my brothers Marmaduke
Moore, one hundred poundes of lawfull English money and unto Pelham
Moore, the like summe of one hundred poundes of like money and
unto Robert Moore, the summe of three score poundes of like money:
And if it shall happen any of my said brothers to dye before such
tyme, as the said legacyes before given unto them be paid, then
I doe appoynte and declare, that the said sev[er]all summes of
money, soe devised, as aforesaid, of them soe shalbe paid to, amongst
their severall children respectively. Item I will devise, and appoynt
that the summe of tenn poundes yearely payeable unto mee by Jeremy
Lyons, and Stephen Lyons, or either of them, for the Interest of
one hundred, and three score poundes, w[hi]ch I have sent unto
them, and for security of the payment of the said somme of one
hundred and sixty poundes, the saide Jeremy hath morgaged his dwelling
howse, with the appurten[a]nces in leighton aforesaid unto mee,
the said John Moore, and my heires my will, and meaning is, that
the said tenne poundes yearely to be paid, as aforesaid shalbe
paid unto my brothers Robert Moore, untill the day appoynted for
redemption of the same: And if the said Robert Moore shall dye,
then the said yearely somme of tenn poundes to be paid as aforesaid,
shalbe paid unto and amongst the children of the said Robert Moore
to be equally divided amongst them, untill the Redempc[i]on of
the said morgage. And if the said Jeremy Lyons, or Stephen \Lyons/,
or any other person, shall pay, or cause to be payed unto my executrices,
or unto my heires, the said Somme of one hundred, and three score
poundes, then I doe will, require and appoynt, my heires, Executrices,
or those to whome the same shall be paid, to pay unto the children
of the said Robert Moore, the said summe of one hundred and three
score poundes within two monethes next after the payment therof,
for the said Redempc[i]on therof, as aforesaid, to be equally divided
betweene them. Item I doe devise, give, and bequeath all my plate,
which I bought of Mr. Maxey unto my loving wife, to use, during
her life, and after her death, then to, and amongst the children
of my daughter Neele, to be equally divided, upon Condic[i]on that
my wife, doe put in reasonable security, that the said children
shall have the said plate after the decease of my said said wife:
the said plate to be given to such of the said children as my wife
shall thinke fitt. It[e]m I doe give, and bequeath unto the poore
of Wing aforesaid the sume of twenty poundes of lawfull English
money, to be payd to the churchwardens of the said parish, for
a stocke to remayne to, and for the use of the poore, to be forever
imployed, at the discrec[i]on of the said churchwardens, and of
the greatest number of parishoners of the said parish: Item I give
and bequeath unto my three servants Elizabeth Sampson, Elizabeth
Moore, and Sara King, to each of them, one heifer, or cow, which
three heifers are now going in Billindon feild, to be delivered
unto them within one weeke, after my decease. Item I give unto
John Neale my grandchild my roand gelding which I bought of Mr.
Theed to be deliv[er]ed unto him imediately after my decease. Item
I doe require my daughter, Bridget Neale, within sixe monethes
after my decease to convey and assure all that messuage, Farme,
lande, and groundes in Cublington, in the Occupac[i]on of George
Stone, unto my Grandchild Joseph Neale, sonne of the said Bridget,
To have, and to hould to him, and his heires from, and after the
decease of the said Bridget Neale. Item I give, and bequeath unto
Mary Taufeild [Tanfeild?] my daughter in law, my bay gelding, to
be deliv[er]ed unto her imediatly after my decease. Item I give
unto my loving freind Mr. Franncis Wells, my
Flebitten gelding, to be deliv[er]ed unto him imediatly after my
decease. Item I give unto Frannces Jenkens my servant, all my wearing
apparrell, and forty shillinges in money: the said apparrell, and
money to be delivered, and payd unto him, within ten dayes after
my decease: I doe give unto Gabriel my servant three poundes of
lawfull English money, and one heyfer at Billindo, to be paid and
delivered unto him within one moneth after my decease. Item I give
unto John my servant Fourty shillinges and unto William my servant
fourty shillinges, to be paid unto them, within one moneth after
my decease. Item I doe give unto Bridget Neale my Grandchild, my
blacke mare and colte. Item I give unto Timothy Neale my grandchild
one hundred poundes of lawfull English money to be paid unto him
when hee shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares, or
within sixe monethes after the decease of my wife, which shall
first happen. Item I give and bequeath unto Bridget Neale and Anne
Neale, to either of them, the Summe of tenn poundes a peece, to
be payd unto them, at their sev[er]all ages of fifteene yeares,
or within sixe monethes after the decease, of my said wife, which
shall first happen. Item I give unto my two sisters fourty shillinges
apeece, to be bestowed in silver boules, the same to be deliv[er]ed
unto them, within sixe monethes after my decease \yf/ they shalbe
then living. I doe give unto my Aunte Harman the summe of five
poundes yearely to be payd unto her by my executrices hereafter
named, if shee doe not live with my said wife, and be mayntained
by her, which if shee doe then the legacy to be void. Item I doe
hereby nominate, constitute and appoynte my loving wife and my
daughter Bridget Neale my executrices of this my last will and
testament: And Mr. Franncis Wells, and Mr. John Wells
my overseers: And I doe hereby give unto the said John Welles,
the summe of five poundes, to be payd unto him within one moneth
after my decease: And I doe hereby signifie, declare, appoynte,
and desire, that if any differences should arise betweene my said
executrices, (which I hope will not) touching any parte of my personall
estate, that then the said executrices should refer the same unto
my overseers, and to be advised by them, and abide such order,
as they shall sett downe, touching such differences, if any such
shalbe. And all other my goodes, Chattells, plate, and househoulde
stuffe, not before given, my debtes being first payd, and my funeralles
discharged I give and bequeath unto my said executrices. And I
doe hereby revoke all other willes whatsoever. In wittnes wherof
I have set my hand, and seale, this twelveth day of July one thousand
sixe hundred thirty fower, and in the tenth yeare of the Raigne
of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god king of England,
Scotland, France, and Ireland, defender of the fayth &c John Moore
