In the name of God Amen I John New of Laighton Bussard
in the Countie of Bed[for]d yeoman being whole in minde though
weake in bodie by reason of gods visitac[i]on and in good and p[er]fect
remembrannce laud and praise bee to his holy name therefore, and
knowing that nothinge is more certeyne then death and nothing more
uncerteyne then the tyme there of Therefore p[re]pareing my selfe
by gods helpe reddie to avoide all unquietnes of minde in extremity
of sicknes And that I maie then the better meditate upon heavene
and heavenely matters for my soules health and leave of the cares
of Temporall thinges in this world doe therefore make and ordeyne
this my p[re]sent Testament concerninge herin my last will in manner
and forme folloing That is to saie First I bequeth my soule to
allmightie god my maker and Redeemer And my bodie to be buried
in the Churchyeard of Laighton aforesaid neare the Chancell doore
theire (if it please god itt may bee soe) trusting in my Savior
Jesus Christ that at the last daie it shall arise againe and through
the merites of his death & passion come to life everlasting
Item I give to the poore of Laighton to bee distributed at the
tyme of my buriall by my Executrix and Overseers hereafter named
fortie shillinges Item I give to Amy my daughter the some of one
hundred poundes to bee paid unto her when she shall accomplish
her age of Twentie and one yeares Item I give unto Ann my daughter
the some of one hundred poundes to bee paid to her when she shall
accomplish her age of one and twentie yeares Item I give unto Joane
my daughter the some of twentie poundes to bee paid to her when
she shall accomplish her age of one and twenty years Item I give
and bequeath unto Anne my welbeloved wiefe All that my messuage
or Tenem[en]t comonlie called or knowne by the name of the Bell
scituate and being in the Towne of Bedford with all the houses
Edifices and app[er]ten[a]nces therunto beloning To hold to her
during her naturall life and after her decease I give the same
premisses unto the foresaid Amye my daughter her heyres and assignes
for ever Item I alsoe give and bequeth unto my said weife the messuage
or tenem[en]t wherein I now dwell commonly called the Bull w[i]th
all the houses Edifices and app[er]ten[a]nces therunto beloning
to hold to her during her naturall liefe and after her decease
I give the same unto the foresaid Ann my daughter her heirs and
assigns for ever Item I give and bequeth unto my said wiefe one
Cottage or Tenement in Feni Stratford and all other my lands Tenements
and hereditaments with Thapp[er]ten[a]nces aswell freehold as Coppyhold
Scituate lyeing and being in Laighton Stanbridge Lynshlade and
Sircott or in either of them and not before bequethed To
hold to her during her naturall liefe and after her decease I give
the same premisses and ev[er]y of them unto the foresaid Joane
my daughter her heires assignes for ever I give unto Thomas Alexander
and Thomas Osmond my Servantes and to either of them tene shillinges
Item I give unto Will[ia]m Elliment Twentie shillinges Item I doe
desier my loveinge brother Will[ia]m New and my loveinge frend
Edmund Bolsworth gent[leman] to bee Overseers of this my present
Testament and to bee helpeing and assistinge unto my wiefe in manageing
her estate and I doe give unto my said brother twentie poundes
to bee paid w[i]thin two yeres next after my decease, and I doe
likewise give unto the said Edm[und] Bolsworth tene poundes to
bee paid w[i]thin one yeare after my decease The residue of all
my goodes Cattell Chattells and debtes whatsoever not in this my
present will gevene or bequeth my debts beinge paid and funerall
expences discharged I give and bequeath unto the foresaid Ann my
wiefe whom I make sole Executrix of this my present Testam[en]t
Witnes my hand and seale this first daie of September An[n]o D[omi]ni
One thousand sixe hundred twentie eight At w[hi]ch tyme I likewise
deliv[er]ed into the handes of the said Edm[und] Bolsworth and
Edward Wilckes one Surrender of soemuch of my land as is Coppiehold
to the use of my wiefe and daughter Joane according to this my
last will John New Sealed & deliv[er]ed in the presence of Chr[istopher]
